A Barbaro T-Shirt, just like the one pictured above, can be yours if you pledge to donate at least $20 to a horse charity such as The Barbaro Fund , Miracle Horse Rescue, Inc.or Int'l Fund for Horses, just to name a few. Please donate DIRECTLY to your charity, then.....

Email us at ecdoesit3@att.net stating your size [we have Small (38" chest), Medium(40" chest),  Large(46" chest), X-large(48" chest) and XXL]. All shirts are white and short-sleeved.*** Also include your shipping address and a contact email address. The shirt will be mailed to you ASAP.

The first 60 Tee Shirts were given away for free. But as of August 2006, I've had to ask for $7 per shirt to cover cost. Please mail your check or money order to: Ernesta Corvino, 451 West 50th Street, New York, NY 10019.

COUNT UPDATE as of  11/3/07:  230 shirts, $4600 for horses!!!

***REMINDER: These shirts are iron-on, heat transfer tees. They are very delicate!!! PLEASE read and follow the enclosed instructions for their specific care!!!!!

Original note from Ernesta Corvino posted in 2006:

As a lover of horses all my life and a practicing equestrian as a child, I have been captivated by Barbaro since I first saw him in the Derby. Like so many others around the world, I hope and pray for his recovery and my heart goes out to all of his connections, especially his trainer, Michael Matz, who, as an Olympic Show Jumper, was my childhood hero.

These Tee-Shirts are my way of contributing. If fellow Barbaro Lovers contribute to helping him and other horses, I am glad to give them something that they can enjoy while showing others how much they care!

The idea for this ballet came to me while listening to the 1984 Kentucky Derby on my car radio. I envisioned a beautiful scene of colorful jockeys atop shiny, well-muscled thoroughbreds parading the track while railbirds of all ages dressed in 1930s clothing looked on. I wanted to capture the beauty and excitement of the race.

As the caller announced Swale as the winner, I had a bizarre image. In my mind I saw the winner breakdown (perhaps my memory of Ruffian?) and suddenly the roses, the Derby’s symbol of victory, became funeral flowers. I was disturbed by this morbid vision and quickly dismissed any idea of choreographing the ballet.

Six weeks later, Swale was dead. I decided to go ahead and create the ballet to portray the ironic juxtaposition in horse racing of beauty and excitement to cruelty and death. This ballet is dedicated to Swale and all the other horses of heart who have given their lives to racing.

DERBY was premiered in April 1985 at The Riverside Dance Festival, Theater of the Riverside Church, New York City.
